Top 10 Fun Ways to Spend Your Day In and Around Tallahassee During the Spring and Summer

Top 10 Fun Ways to Spend Your Day In and Around Tallahassee During the Spring and Summer

10 | Fun Station, Chinese Buffet, and Regret

- Definitely a “last-resort” type of activity, but it must be done at least once. Find out what day has $2.99 activities (Putt-Putt, Go Karts, Laser Tag, and Batting cages) and bring friends. When you begin to regret going, head over to Chinese Super Buffet on Monroe street for some comfort food. Once inside, try not to get lost (its freaking huge). Last time I was there an asian child licked about five serving spoons. Have fun!

9 | Scenic Stroll in St. Marks

- If you’re a history buff or just enjoy the outdoors, you will really like St. Marks Trail at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. About 40 minutes south of Tallahassee, and once you get there you can walk it or drive it and there are lots of interesting things to look at, such as exotic birds, and lighthouse dating back to the 1830s, and an awesome view of the Gulf of Mexico.

8 | Hiking at The Sinks

- For some good exercise and sightseeing, drive down to the Leon Sinks Geological Area. There you will find a three mile trail wrapped around one of the most extensive underwater cave systems in the world. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and keep an eye out for snakes and other wildlife. If you are lucky you might even see a black bear. But seriously... you might.

7 | Golf at Seminole

- Whether you are a seasoned vet, or have never touched a club, you can still have fun at the links. Don Veller Seminole Golf Course has 18 holes, a practice putting green, and a driving range. If you’re a pro, you will really enjoy this very well kept course, if you’re a beginner they have clubs you can borrow and even offer lessons. Finish up your round with some food and drinks at the Renegade Grill next to the clubhouse.

6 | Party/BBQ at Home

- Invite all of your friends over and just party all day. Spending time with good friends is always fun, and the best memories seem to always happen at things like this. Add a theme, get food and drinks and you are sure to have a great time.

5 | Downtown Tallahassee

- Hit up museums such as The Museum of Florida History or The Florida Historic Capitol Museum. For some awesome visuals head up to the 22nd floor observation deck of the capitol building for a breathtaking view of Tallahassee, or go to the Challenger Learning Center IMAX and Planetarium in Klemen Plaza to see some really cool shows. Finish off the day with a delicious meal at one of the great downtown restaurants. My favorites are Andrew’s Bar and Grill and Harry’s Seafood.

4 | FSU Campus

- Believe it or not, there is a ton of fun stuff to do on campus. Spend an hour or two on Landis Green tossing frisbee or football in the sun. Grab a quick bite to eat at the union or even Sweet Shop on Jefferson. You can head to Crenshaw Lanes for some SUPER cheap bowling and drinks. make your way to Leach for some pick up basketball, racquetball, or for just a good workout. Cap off your day with a free movie (for FSU students) at the Student Life Cinema. Plus, there are always new activities on campus and you never know what you might find by just walking around!

3 | The Beach at St. George Island

- Okay, so it is kind of a drive but for people in desperate need of a beach, this is your best bet. It will take a little more than an hour and a half to get there, but once you arrive you can spend the entire day there having all kinds of fun. Bring a bunch of friends and beer and you cant go wrong.

2 | Zoo & Rez

- Head over to the Tallahassee Museum, which is really just a cool little zoo. They have snakes (that you can hold), otters (that go down slides), bobcats, black bears, and other interesting animals. After, go next door to the FSU Rez and get some sun. The Rez has volleyball, rock climbing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more! If you want to be extra adventurous, you can kayak right up to the black bear cage of the zoo. But be careful, its off limits and there are alligators! I have seen them.

1 | Wild Adventures

- Just an hour drive (with a heavy foot) away in Valdosta, Ga. This theme park has five roller coasters, a water park, and a zoo. It’s not Islands of Adventure or Six Flags, but it’s still a lot of fun, and the short lines will allow you to ride rides multiple times. The Boomerang is my favorite ride, and if you have a sensitive stomach then stay away from The Rattler. After a day at the park, there are a ton of great southern restaurants in Valdosta such as Smok’n Pig BBQ.
